About the Role

As a CAD Technician, you’ll be responsible for producing accurate and professional technical drawings under the direction of experienced members of the team.

The role would suit someone with some previous CAD experience who is looking to develop their technical skills within a transport planning or highways environment. Experience of transport planning or highway design is desirable but not essential, provided the candidate has a good understanding of CAD and a willingness to learn.

The successful candidate will work closely with transport planners and senior technical staff, supporting projects from initial feasibility through to planning submission and detailed design

Key Responsibilities

1. Produce accurate 2D CAD drawings and plans in accordance with company and project standards.
2. Assist with the preparation of drawings for transport planning and highway projects, including:
3. Site access and junction arrangements
4. Parking layouts
5. Vehicle tracking and swept-path analysis
6. Visibility splays
7. Highway and site layout plans
8. Road markings and signage
9. Servicing and delivery arrangements
10. Pedestrian and cycle infrastructure
11. Traffic management and highway improvement schemes
12. Amend and update drawings in response to comments from project managers, clients and other consultants.
13. Work from architects’ drawings, topographical surveys, aerial photography and other technical information.
14. Assist with the preparation of drawings and plans for planning applications and technical reports.
15. Ensure drawings are produced consistently with company CAD standards and project requirements.
16. Maintain organised project drawing files and ensure appropriate drawing revisions are recorded.
17. Liaise with transport planners and senior technicians to understand drawing requirements and resolve technical queries.
18. Assist with incorporating information received from other consultants and third parties.
19. Undertake basic checking of own work to ensure drawings are accurate, complete and presented to a high standard.
20. Develop knowledge of relevant highway, transport and design standards and guidance.
21. Contribute to the continuous improvement of the company’s CAD standards, templates and drawing procedures.

Requirements

1. Previous experience using AutoCAD in a professional environment.
2. Good understanding of 2D CAD drawing principles.
3. Ability to produce accurate drawings from written instructions and technical information.
4. Good attention to detail and pride in the quality of work produced.
5. Ability to manage workloads and meet agreed deadlines.
6. Good organisational skills and ability to maintain well-structured drawing files.
7. Ability to work independently while also working effectively as part of a wider project team.
8. Willingness to learn and develop technical knowledge within the transport planning and highways sector.
9. Good written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable

1. Previous experience within a transport planning, highways, civil engineering or related consultancy.
2. Experience preparing highway, access, parking or site layout drawings.
3. Experience using vehicle tracking/swept-path software such as AutoTrack.
4. Familiarity with UK highway design principles and guidance, including Manual for Streets and relevant local authority requirements.
5. Understanding of planning application drawings and the requirements of the development planning process.
6. Experience working from topographical surveys and architectural site plans
